Bedroom Makeover

The first item on my long "To Do" list was to have a bedroom haven.  Here is my bedroom to my new house:
I thought the bedroom was a decent size with 2 deep closets 2 windows with bright light and a light fixture I didn't have to change (unless I get a ceiling fan).
Although blue isn't my favorite color I painted the walls a grey-blue and stained the floors darker to blend in with the dark furniture and here is what it looks like now
King size nickel-finished bed frame.
This piece wouldn't fit in my old bedroom.  Turns out I don't need it because I have enough closet space.  The other side has a full length mirror though and it fits perfectly in that spot!
I rarely make my bed but I have to admit it does make the room neater.
2 closets! It's not a walk-in but two is good enough to fit all my clothes (winter clothes anyway).
It still needs a couple of pictures on the wall but I don't think much else.  I am very happy that the room fits my new king-size bed comfortably without looking cluttered. If I can do a cartwheel from the door to my bed that is my test for no clutter.   I got the headboard/frame from Overstock.  I was really looking for a queen-size (I've slept on a full-size all my life) but they only had King size. A king-size bed is like sleeping on your own island and I love it!
Now I'm off to tackle the office or the "kids" room.

Baked Crispy Cheddar Chicken

If your not on Pinterest, get on it.  It's a wonderful tool to organize all the lovely things you find online.  While awaiting my 5 month closing I accumulated a vast collection of recipes on Pinterest that made my mouth water.  This Saturday I embarked on making this Crispy Cheddar Chicken made with Ritz crackers because I had all the ingredients (except the dried parsley).

To be a Pinterest "member" you need to be invited.  Email me your email address and I will be happy to send one to you.  You are welcome to follow me and I will follow you!

I made this last week so I didn't make any pictures but mine didn't look as nice anyway.  I tried using the cracker Barrel Mediterranean Cheddar Cheese and the Roasted Vegetable Ritz Crackers. My chicken didn't get as crispy as I would have liked but the flavor was very good.  I recommend this recipe.

The Closing

It's finally here!   Long awaited after four months of living in one suitcase and no real address.   I moved out on July 30th only expecting to be at my mom for 4-6 weeks and but instead it almost spilled over to winter!  I signed my life away and got the key and all the stress that will follow like moving, painting, etc will be nothing compared to what I had to endure.  My is also looking forward to getting her exercise/tv room back.  Buying a house is hell so I hope it's worth it.

Clueless

So I'm not an expert in anything.  I'm single with no kids and I'm embarking several firsts.  This personal journal is to hopefully get enough readers to give me suggestions on home ownership, caring for kids and  home decorating.  I will also be peppering my post with my extreme coupon shopping trips and anything I successfully (or unsuccessfully) made from my new favorite site Pinerest.
Right now I watch every home show on cable to prepare myself:
My First Place - follows first time home buyers from their search to the first few weeks in their new home.  Lots of good information but I think I encountered all the hurdles combined trying to get my house and we are going into month 4 and I still haven't closed.
House Hunters - They never choose the house you think they're leaning towards.

Property Brothers - Why can't I find a contractor and realtor that are cute, show up and know what they are doing?

Yard Crashers, Bathroom Crasher, Room Crashers - They always seem to have difficulty finding someone to makeover their house.  ***FYI - I will be the one at the Westbury Lowes Friday and Saturday morning in the paint isle with a confused look (and a neon sign saying "Crash my house!".)***
Oh, and I feel a pattern coming on.....all the contractor happen to be young strapping fine male specimens without muffin tops or butt crack issues.
Holmes Home Inspection - This guy knows his stuff!  It's a little unsettling that there are so many inspectors and contractors out there (licensed no less) that miss so many issues and do such shotty work.  The house I'm purchasing is over 70 years old and it's a little unsettling to not know what potential disaster may be lurking beyond the sheet rock.  My inspector misdiagnosed 2 things and had me in a panic only to find out by an electrician and a HUD inspector that it was nothing (that's another story).
What's your favorite Home Improvement show?
